English learning software

Hi, friends.
Congratulations for your newsgroup.
I was wondering if there are any free softwares which help people
studying English language. Can you give me any advice?
Maybe a software for gradually learning new words or, even better,
something more specific relating grammar topics or something like that
(example situational dialogs would be perfect!).
It would be useful also a chat-software that doesn't require an
installation, as I have got a poor internet connection at home and I'm
going to use this software on a computer which is not my property...

I much appreciate your help, xtort.
At present time I'm also using "Dictionary Program" (this is its
actual name), which permits, in addition to the research of single
words, to select a set of them and to practise by trying to guess the
translation of the randomly displayed words.

In fact, I have found this links very interesting (and also xtort's
