Encryption Algorithm goes to DES from 3DES, ID 'cannot be found'

After several months of success using secure email, Outlook now won't send
signed / receive encrypted mail, throws the error, 'your digital ID cannot be
found in the security subsystem'. Personal certificates are still listed in
Internet Explorer's Tools | Options | Certificates.

In Outlook, the s/mime algorithm now reflects DES (and 3DES is no longer an
option in the drop down list). Tried creating a new Outlook profile but get
the same symptoms.

Thank you in advance for any guidance or suggestions.

Morgan,
I've had a similar problem. The network administrator inadvertently
changed some Outlook settings. Perhaps the administrator can get you closer
to a solution.

Did your admin happen to mention what s/he did? I don't find any exchange
properties pertaining to allowing / disallowing encryption algorithms on the
mailbox.
