encoding problem

I just recently got DSL and when I was going though the
setup I had to upgrade my internet explorer from 5.5 to
Internet explorer 6. Now my encoding isn't working right
and Microsoft doesn't support internet explorer 5.5
anymore. The problem is some of the web pages I visit
don't load right because the encoding switches to "Western
(ISO)" instead of staying set at "Western (windows)". I
have windows 98 but it's not second edition. I tried to
choose "Western (windows)" but it keeps switching. I also
choose "Auto Select" but still it chooses "Western (ISO)".
Now when I unselect and re-select "Auto select" it chooses
the right setting but again when I go to another web page
it switches back to "Western (ISO)". Is there a download
to fix this issue?

I had the same problem, I just uninstalled 6.0 and went
back to the previous configuration. It works just fine
now. So much for all the time I have spent trying to fix
it.
