Emptying the Controls collection prevents form from closing.

Why does disposing all of the controls and emptying the controls collection
in a form prevent it from closing?

At the minute we have the lovely choice of not destroying our controls and
having a major memory leak, or we destroy the controls, and find ourselves
unable to close the form.

Any advice appreciated.

I am not sure what you mean, do you mean controls you added Dynamically? Do you have a small sample that reproduces the problem that I could take a look at here?

What Framework version are you using? There's a known bug in the 1.0
Framework when you dispose the focused control. See item #1 on the .NET
