I have my MS Outlook 2003 set to empty the Deleted Items box when I log off.
When I actually log off, I get a prompt, asking me if I am sure I want to
empty the deleted items box. I say OK. What is actually happening is that
it is emptying my deleted items box, but it is not taking them off the
server, and, as a consequence, my mailbox capacity is filling up without my
realising it. I would be very grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.

They should be deleted the next time outlook syncs with the server if you
are using cached mode but you can use autoarchive to delete the junk and
deleted folder every couple of days instead. Added bonus: outlook will close
faster and cleaner.

Thanks so much Diane - how to I use auto-archive? Thanks in advance! Trish

right click on deleted folder, choose properties, autoarchive tab to enable
it for the folder and choose the age of items to be deleted. I do 3 days in
case I accidentally delete something (7 in junk email incase something gets
misdirected there), others use 1 day to keep it fairly empty. When you click
ok, the global archive dialog should come up - if not, go to tools, options,
others, autoarchive to set it up. Set it to run daily. Do not choose 'apply
these settings to all folders' - it will erase any custom settings you
configured and enable all folders for archiving.
