Embedd maps in CF application

Hi group,

I have started similar threads other times, but I don't receive many
suggestions, that's why I'm back here again. I hope this time all you
discuss with me the current mapping capabilities on mobile devices. I
think this kind of thread deserves a little bit activity.

Well, to the point: I want add mapping capability to my CF application,
that is, show the user a map pinpointing his exact location.

What are the options? I've already tried VE Mobile but latest source
code is not available. Available source code does not work because MS
has changed its tile server logic.
Google Maps: is not correctly rendered in IExplorer of most devices and
I don't want to launch IExplorer from my application; I want to embedd
maps into my CF application. Thus, what are the options (free and not
free) to deal with maps in CF applications? Mappoint?

I'm sure somebody has dealt with this before.

Thanks very much in advance.

I used MapPoint.NET for a project (several years ago now) and it worked
quite well. Casey Chesnut also did a cool mapping project a few years back
(virtual earth maybe?) that worked quite well. I've got a few friends that
work for a company that does nothing but mapping and they do all their
plotting right from NavTeq data, so that's an option too.

Hi Chris,

Yes, I think I must take again a look at MapPoint. It was not my idea
but seems one of the best mapping solutions for mobile devices. Anyway,
there must be tons of software manufacturers integrating maps in mobile
devices. Does somebody know a good one (apart from MapPoint) with
detailed maps of Europe?

Virtual Earth Mobile option
(http://www.viavirtualearth.com/vve/Gallery/VEMobile.ashx) was without
doubt my first option; really attractive but I'm afraid nobody will
update and publish the source code for Jason's Fuller great
application. I've seen many post of people asking for the latest source
code, but still the mistery of that source code continues.......

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing some more opinion on other
mapping possibilities.

Regards.

Lonifasiko,

I believe Peter Foot was working on an integration module for the TomTom
SDK.

But I doubt that the maps will be embeddable into a CF app because I
believe the TomTom SDK only provides for communication to the TomTom
application

We use MapClassLib .Net from www.graticule.com and for the UK with the OS
maps. Our solutions to date with inbuilt mapping have all been for public
bodies so they have free access to the OS maps.

Hi again,

Finally I've tried MapPoint Web Service. I've created a MapPoint
developer account and I've migrated "ClickToCenterMap" desktop example
to Compact Framework. I promise yesterday the example worked. I was
able to see MapPoint maps in my CF application.
I've tried today but I get "Error in the transport data connection:
Remote host closed unexpectedly the connection...". The example just
has a web reference to MapPoint Web Service.

Desktop example continues working, so the problem it's only related to
CF application. Seems like it cannot get connected to MapPoint Web
Service? But why? Haven't changed anything........

Has somebody used MapPoint Web Service with Compact Framework? Thanks
very much in advance.
