Emails in the outbox

I have found that if I send an email it wont leave the outbox
If I close outlook and reopen it and do a send/recieve it will go out. The
details show it is sending 2 messages when it only showed 1 in the outbox
I have virus scanned and windefender scanned
Is there someway I can find out if there is a read receipt going out or
something of that nature?

I am having a similar problem. My 1 email in the outbox won't leave (tried
what you said you did without success) but it read as sending 3 emails when I
reopened it, and then 'send complete' with the one I want to send still in
the outbox. I hope someone out there can help me too.
