Hi
I have recently updated my Office package to 2007. The upgrade seemed to go
smoothly and everything seems to work OK, except that in Outlook, all my
emails, contacts and tasks have disappeared (and no, I didn't back them up!)
Can anyone help with this please?

Thanks

Justin

Now you know that back up is a computer user's best friend and when you
consider how easy Outlook is to back up ...

Have you tried searching the computer for ".pst" (without the quotes)
with searching enabled for hidden files?

Alias

Upgraded from what version?
If you select Personal Folders, rt click, properties you will see the folder
path and name
Within IE browse to that path (Enable View Hidden) then see the name of the
largest outlook data file, possibly named Outlook
Then within Outlook, File>Open>Data File,.......browse to and open this data
file.
What you do then depends on the version you upgraded from

Hi DL

Sorry about that - I upgraded from Office 2000. I've sorted it now with
your help thanks. I just renamed the old and the new Outlook data files and
my emails and everything have reappeared! Phew.

I have another problem now though - I've just tried to sync my Windows
mobile device, and Active Sync is telling me that it 'cannot sync with the
Outlook profile that I am using because a different profile was previously
used or the profile is password protected'

Is this a similar issue - i.e. has the new installation created a new
profile and given it a new name so as not to overwrite the old one?

Any ideas, or shall I post this as a new query?

Thanks once again

Kind regards

Justin

You have probably now corrupted your Profile
Also you will still be using the old format, ansi, data files, which have
the size limitation and is not as robust as the new unicode data file.
At this point, IMO you should create a new Profile, add a new data file, add
your accounts & test.
Then open outlook, use File>Open>Data File...browse to and open your old
data file.
Then in tree view copy data from old to new, as required, once done close
the old data file, or leave it open for access to any old data

By default the first data file is named outlook.pst a subsequent data file
is named outlook1.pst and so on, what you should have actually done is
opened your old data file, & copied data from that to the new one - NOT
export or Import

Your active sync issue maybe as a result of corrupting the profile.
Activesync is supported on its own group, its not part of outlook. But you
need to sort out your Profile and data files before attending to this

Hi DL: My problem is even more severe. I upgraded from Office 2000 to 2007
Small Office Edition and my Microsoft Outlook disappeared. I am a real
neophyte but the installation appeared to have gone smoothly. I am now left
with a fall back to Outlook Express for e-mails. What did I do wrong?
Help!!

If you put in the install disc and check the settings on the install, is
Outlook checked? I seem to remember Small Office including Outlook.

Also search to include hidden for outlook.exe
Or look in Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12

If your outlook pst file was broken. You can try a popular Outlook
recovery tool called Advanced Outlook Repair to repair your PST file.
It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and other objects
from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aor/

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe
Good luck!
