Emails containing hyperlinks are not working how do I fix this?

When I receive an email with a hyperlink if I try and click on the hyperlink
it opens a Locate Link Browser button instead of opening the web page. This
is especially annoying if the email has an automated unsubscribe link because
there is no other way for me to ask them not to send the emails to me any
more. I have broadband constantly connected so the communications is not an
issue. Is there some setting that I can turn on?

If you are using Windows XP, click start, and then "program access and
defaults"
Check "custom", and then click the down arrow on the right side of the
window. Under the first option (default web browser), check Internet
Explorer, then click OK. If this doesn't solve the problem (or you are not
using XP) post again, and I will post a different option.

I am having the same problem, but your suggestion didn't work. I did notice
that if I go back into "program access and defaults", Internet Explorer is
not selected. Should this stay selected?

I did as everyone has suggested, by resetting my web settings, but I still
can't open hyperlinks in my calendar. Let me back up and explain my
situation.
I had Office 2003... was upgraded to 2007, but was having issues with
various 'other' applications, so was restored to 2003. Prior to the upgrade
I was able to insert 'linked' docs in my calendar. Then when I was upgraded
to 2007, I was still able to inser 'linked' docs into my calendar. However,
not that I'm back to 2003, the links I created previously in 2003 work fine,
but those I created in 2007 don't. Any ideas as to why?

Temporary Solution until you can fix this: forward the email to a web-based
account eg. hotmail and you'll be able to follow the hyperlinks there.

Ok, when I click on "Folder Options" there are 3 tabs: "General", "View" &
"Search". How do I go from there? (The next stage of the solution you gave
the link for says "Select the File Types tab" and I've looked under the 3
tabs but there's nothing like that.) Thanks for your patience, Brian Tillman.

Oh, yea. Vista. You'll have to use the Registry Editor and make sure the
Open action and ddeexec entry for the "htmfile" file type is correct. Use
regedit to locate
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmfile\shell\open. The "command" key should have one
string value, "(Default)", beneath it whose data is

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

including quotes and spaces. The "ddeexec" key should have a string value
"(Default)" whose data is

"file://%1",,-1,,,,,

with all punctuation. Also under ddeexec on my PC is a key "Application" with
a string value "(Default)" whose data is "IExplore" (wthout the quotes) and
another key "Topic" with a string value "(Default)" whose data is
"WWW_OpenURL".

Ok. NO htmfile: the nearest I had was "htmlfile" which did have the
corresponding & correct entries
as you stated above. What's our next step?

I'm stumped. Sorry.

Tx for all your help anyway, Brian. It'll be two of us learn something when
I do get the answer!
