I am unable to send emails keep getting message the host SMTP can not be
recognised.

Your settings are wrong but Jane, please don't post your real email
address in a newsgroup because junk mailers "Scan" these groups for
valid addresses and you will get hundreds if messages a day asking if
you want cheap drugs etc.

SMTP is the "Protocol" (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol" used by internet
servers to send mail, what you really should have entered is
mail.btinternet.com or possibly smtp.btinternet.com and that depends on
how BT have set up their system.

Call BT and get tech support to help you through this one because now
your email address has appeared in a newsgroup you need to change it.
The email I use here which is (e-mail address removed) is valid but gets
anywhere from 200 to 1000 messages a day, that's because I have my own
servers and don't really care if they send me 100,000 ads a day they are
wasting their time.
