email will not accept color

I’m using Outlook 2003 set to use Word as the email editor. There is no
problem using Word separately but in Outlook it will not allow me to change
the color of the text in rich text or html mail which messes up replying to
mail. I have tried a lot of things including: checking the settings in
Outlook, changing and resetting the settings in Outlook, running Office
Repair, etc. No luck. I've been using Outlook every day for many years -
never had this problem - it just started a few days ago.

Will not allow to change it in what way? Are the button to change color
greyed out?

No, the button is not greyed out - it appears active. But when I select a
color, it has no effect - everything remains black no matter what I do. I
just spoke with a person I had sent mail to and he tells me that my text is
coming through blue to him, but it is black to me. Also, I looked through
sent mail to see if I could figure out exactly when the problem began, but
all my sent mail appears to me only in black even though I always use a
variety of colors to respond. In preview pane, text appears blue. Weird.

Do you get the same results when you use Outlook as the email editor? If not
locate normal.dot and rename it to .old when Outlook and Word are closed.

I do get the same problem if I use Outlook as the email editor. I tried the
normal.dot change anyway but no luck. Heck if I type some red or other
colored text in Word then paste it into an Outlook email is still goes to
black. I just can't get any outgoing message to display any color but black.
Henry Ford might have liked it but...
