SP1 has NOT fixed a reported bug in Windows Mail. I mentioned it here
and reported it at Windows Feedback at
https://feedback.windowsvista.microsoft.com/default.aspx?productkey=winvista
some months back.

I am using Vista Home Premium now with SP1 but this also occurred
before SP1

The bug is that, if an email is open in its own window then Windows
Mail is shut down (leaving the email open) then the computer shut
down, then, when the computer is rebooted, that email now appears in
the Drafts folder as well as in its original folder.

Anyone else experiencing this bug and/or know of a fix?

Did you really expect that bug to be fixed? Windows Mail is dead as
far as Microsoft is concerned. All development effort is going into the
replacement program, Windows Live Mail.

I don't like Windows Live Mail at all.

I hate the way it forces you to have a hotmail account and sign in
with that.

I hate the way each of your mail accounts has its own set of folders
for inbox, drafts, sent, deleted etc.

Windows Mail handles these things a lot better IMHO

Its "Check for Updates" option in the help menu does not work - sends
me to a busted link

The version I am using is 8.0.1226

Is there a latter version of Live Mail and is it any better?

Windows Live Mail does not require you to have a Hotmail account.
You can go to Tools, Options, Connection, click "Stop signing in."
What you lose is the automatic syncing and backup of your contacts.

It is better suited for someone with only 2 or 3 accounts.
I have 10 accounts, so 10 sets of account folders, but I keep things
manageable by keeping the folders collapsed to one line each, and
reading the incoming mail in the top Quick Views folder. That is
pretty much equivalent to WM's single Inbox.

Perhaps that link is broken for you because you are using an obsolete
beta version. The latest is 12.0.1606. Get it from http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

The current version will handle any account Windows Mail
can handle, in addition to letting you add Hotmail accounts.

That version number doesn't look like one I've seen lately;
the current version is available here:

http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

If you need more information about it, you will find more people
who use it in newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

It still uses a separate set of Local Folders for each account,
though.

See in-line........

No, you don't need a Hotmail account. If you do, then you can sync your
contacts, etc.

Lots of users like this over WM dumping everything into 1 Inbox.
You can keep the accounts closed up, and use the Quickviews.

The current version is updated via Windows Update.
The version I am using is 8.0.1226

That version has been deprecated.

12.0.1606
Better? Perhaps.
