Email address field setup in table and form?

I'm using Access 2002.
I want to store customers' email addresses in the Customers table and have
them useable on the Orders form i.e. click to fire Exchange and send a
message.
I thought it would be a simple matter of setting the data format as
Hyperlink, but if I do this, Access thinks is is a http address and gets
confused and locks the record.

How do I format the email address field in the table? As a hyperlink, or
not? Anything else to configure?
And similarly on the form - as a hyperlink, yes/no? Anything else to set?

Onboard help is virtually silent on the subject but I'm sure somebody here
can help me.
