email address auto complete doesn't do what I want

Outlook 2002, Win XP Pro

I have a lot of contacts and each has an email address.

In the first box of the contacts page it asks for email and it prints
the actual email address: (e-mail address removed)

Directly under that box is another box which asks for "display as". In
this box I put the persons name and then their email address is in
parentheses. So: jane doe ([email protected]).

When I go to send an email in Outlook, I start to type in the name but
it doesn't select the right name (or any name), unless I can type the
first three or four letters of the email address.

In other words, it can auto-finish an email address but it can't
recognize the name of the contact. In the example above, I can't type
jane doe - the only way to get it to auto fill is if I were to type xxzz
- it would fill in the rest.

This is very annoying because I don't remember most of my friends via
their email addresses - I remember them by their name!

Is there a setting, program or registy, that might repair this?

TIA

Louise

As is posted here daily, Autocomplete does not use Contact data. It uses a
cache of names from emails that have been sent previously.

So, enable autoresolution, type "doe" and press CTRL-K.
