Hi Everyon

I have a friends computer here and he told me that he could not eve
get it to turn on. So, I figured it was just the power supply. So
replaced it and it powered up but I get nothing on the monitor. S
then I plugged in the speakers to see if I would hear windows star
up and nothing. So i try another power supply and get the sam
result. Then I unplugged everything but the hardrive and boot and ge
the same thing. So then I tried a new hard drive and get the sam
thing. So then I replaced the hard drive cable...and got the sam
thing. Put in a new video card and got the same thing. There is n
beeps when it powers up either. And yes the monitor is on...lo
Anyways, Just thought I would ask and see if you guys had any idea
that I could try. Thank you all for any help that you can offer

You've got a bad motherboard or CPU. One or the other. You can TRY:
1) Remove CMOS battery
2) Set CMOS clear jumper to clear position
3) Let it sit for 15 minutes
4) Reinstall CMOS battery and set CMOS clear jumper to normal position
5) If you get video at all, enter the BIOS setup screen and load default
settings

But I'm betting your mainboard is dead, so the above probably won't
ork. -Dave

Sounds similar to an old emachine I had. First the psu went; it was
producing 4.84v and causing crashes. Next the network interface went,
out of the blue. Next Eventually the crashes started again, with a
known good enermax supply with proper voltages. I suspect the
mainboard was the culprit because everything else worked fine in
another system. If you could get the windows to work with another
mainboard, that's where I would go, either that or just start over.

It could be the cpu, but it is most likely the motherboard. I have seen tons
of emachines with bad Bestec power supplies. About half of them also have
bad motherboards. It seems that the PSU is taking out the motherboards too.
I have had good luck replacing the motherboards with aftermarket parts. If
you use a board with a similar chipset (in this case boards wit the KM266Pro
are still available) it should work with the original restore discs. You may
have to do a full restore and then activate windows using the product key on
the back of the machine. I have not had any problems activating Windows on
the machines that I have replaced the motherboard. Newegg.com has a couple
of mATX KM266 boards that will work. I have been using the Biostar one. Not
the greatest choice, but better than the $160 or so for an actual Emachine
exact replacement.

zzzzzzzzz - if it is under warranty send the POS back - if not chuck the
****er in the bin, save the obvious working parts, and be done with it.
it's not worth all this effort.
