Either Excel or Access Error - not sure

I inherited an Excel spreadsheet that has embedded queries that pull data
from an Access database. I am revamping the Excel queries to pull from new
Access queries to make things more efficient. When right-clicking then
"Editing Query" I can update and then run the new query...once.

It will run fine the first time. Subsequent efforts on neighboring cells,
calling the same Access query with slightly different criteria, results in an
error "The text specification 'Appsentered Link Specification' does not
exist. You cannot import, export, or link using the specification."

I assume this refers to a linked table in my Access db called "Appsentered"
which is a delimited text file on my network that I set up a link through the
wizard. Unfortunately, when I go to Access, everything is fine.

Is anyone familiar with this error and how it can be addressed? Any help
would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sean,
I assume this refers to a linked table in my Access db called "Appsentered"
which is a delimited text file on my network that I set up a link through the
wizard. Unfortunately, when I go to Access, everything is fine.

I strongly suspect you cannot run a query against such a linked table from Excel
without using Access as an intermediate.

Are you suggesting that I would have to run an Access query to get what I'm
after? Then, use the Excel query to pull in the results of the Access query?

Thanks!

Either that, or import the textfile into an Access table rather than linking
it.

I will try that. I was trying to avoid importing the file into a table so as
to reduce a management step, but I suppose I could always write a macro to do
that, as well.

Thanks for the help!

Why can it not be linked. This is what MS office is supposed to do.

I have faced a similar problem trying to link a table from Excel into
Access. If I keep the excel file open and then try to open the table in
Access. Both Excel shows unstable behaviour. A pop up message keeps on poping
in and out rapidly which says that the table is now not available. In some
instance one of the application crashes.
