Hi Bryan,

See if this helps. Ignore the name. This is often caused by a third party
"Desktop" program. One being Desktop Architect.

Restore the Desktop and Screensaver Tabs (Line 128)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Hi Kelly,thanks for suggestion.I followed through,but
still the same. The appearance tab is there it's just the
effects button doesn't work, the advanced button is also
okay.As you pointed out also, it was desktop architect that
caused the problem. It was my mistake I failed to check that
it was compatible with XP.I used to use it with 98se.
I believe it's caused another problem too which I've just
noticed. My icon for contol panel has reverted back to some
pre XP icon-looks like a folder with a hammer on it.I can't
right click and select properties to change the icon!!!
Also when control panel is diplayed the Fax and Printer
icon has changed to the old yellow folder wih a printer on
it.I don't know what else has been changed.Would it be
better to to perform a clean install or can these things be
fixed.I've not long had XP installed and I'm still a newbie
when it comes to tweaking anything especially the registry.
Look forward to any help/suggestions.
Regards Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Hmm, that usually works. Try it again, I have modified it. Delete the
download you have of that regfile and re-download it. Good luck!

Use this edit to reset your icons.

.Hello again Kelly, neither of the fixes worked.Maybe I'm
not doing something right.I saved both to the desktop and
double clicked.I was then asked "do you want to add info"
etc and clicked yes
Was this correct?
Cheers Bryan
