Editor Needed Similiar to DOS Edit

I am looking for a freeware program that will allow me to edit text
files while showing me the row and column number of the current cursor
position. Notepad does not do this. I normally use my DOS editor for
this task, but now it refuses to launch with the message, Virtual
Device Driver failed DLL intitialization.

Actually, notepad does show it.
Start notepad, and
Format > UNCHECK Word Wrap
View > Status bar
