Editing Text in Link Bar

How do you get the text in the link bar to wrap, rather than just disappear. (I am using a theme - but this prolem occurs in virtually all themes).

For example, I want the tab in the link bar to look like this:

[ Gone with ]
[ the wind ]

But instead get this:

[one with th]

Any help greatly appreciated.
