Running Windows 2000 Pro I have the following strange
problem.
If I right click on a file of type say .XYZ the sytem
displays a messag box which says "Windows cannot find
<NOTEPAD.EXE".

I then click "locate" and direct it to C:\WINNT where
there is a copy of NOTEPAD but it still reports that it
cannot find NOTEPAD.

What the devil is happening (obviously I can start NOTEPAD
and use it to open the file).

An entry for just notepad.exe usually means the file is in C:\WINNT\system32. You might check in the registry for the file type (I am assuming you know how this works) and make sure for the command open it says, C:\WIINT\notepad.exe or %systemroot%\notepad.exe. But as C:\WINNT should be in your path it ought to work anyway if it is just notepad.exe
