edit drop down

i am compiling a school report as a template which others will fill in. I
would like to create a bank of comments using the drop down menu which users
can select and then edit to change to appropriate pupil name, etc. Can anyone
tell me if this is possible, and if o how I do it??!!

If you're thinking of the dropdown form field on the forms toolbar, that
won't do what you want. For one thing, it's limited to 50 characters per
item; for another thing, they aren't editable.

The feature you should look at is the AutoTextList field
(http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/AutoTextList.htm). You can store
the "canned" comments as AutoText entries in the template, and use the
AutoTextList field to insert the right one into any particular document
based on the template.
