Skywatchers eagerly awaiting Saturday's total lunar eclipse say that the spectacle could be the "best in years".

The eclipse begins at 2018 GMT, with the Moon totally immersed in the shadow of the Earth between 2244 and 2358 GMT.

During "totality", only light that has been filtered through the Earth's atmosphere reaches the Moon's surface, making it appear a reddish colour.

The eclipse will be visible from the whole of Europe, Africa, South America, and eastern parts of the US and Canada

No harm in taking a peek at this :D

supposed to go a red colour at totality between 22:44 and 22:56 when the only light will be filtered through the earths atmosphere turning the moon red in colour...

I was in the middle of Greenwich and saw this thing.

Moon went dark.

Moon went red.

Moon went half red.

I thought to myself 'You seen one eclipse, you seen 'em all'

I went back into the pub....

All looked quite impressive from down here :thumb:

It looked like there was a very light band around the top, a bit like the old "diamond ring" you might have seen with the solar eclipse back in 1999 (I think it was  )

Looking forward to seeing some piccies from around the world to see what variations there might be.

yes pretty good in my back garden

the best bit was when the moon went red
it was brilliant

but then it got a bit boring!

I tried taking pictures, but I did not have the right equipment and i failed at taking a decent pic.

it would be nice to see your pics on pcreview im sure they will be brilliant quality.

Luverly sight last night but was a bit cloudy so I never saw the start or the end . The clouds did lift for a while and I tried out me new camera ( well it was second hand of e-bay) a Canon Poweshot SI 1S .
Took me ages to get the moon in the frame , like looking for a needle in a haystack . An I realy need a remote firing button to stop the camera shake . I managed to get some pics though , heres the best of em . I might make up a screensaver as all the pics looked pretty neat jumping around the screen when I viewed them as a slide show . :p
