Anyone know if this thing works with Windows Server 2003?

what does it do that 'scanreg /fix' does not do?

scanreg /fix does not get rid of much garbage in your registry. The goal of
scanreg /fix is to make sure that your registry will not cause too many
system crashes.

Registry cleaning tools are much more thorough.

That being said, I would still recommend using

scanreg /fix
scanreg /opt

on a regular basis along with a good Registry Cleaner.

Runs in Windows (no booting into DOS necessary), cleans out orphan registry
entries (scanreg /fix doesn't), is much faster, plus all of the additional
features listed.

Do you know what 'scanreg /fix' does?
Have you visited the author's website to read up on that?
Too lazy, pal?

Registry cleaner now 110% accurate

Ouch. That's at least 10% too much registry cleaning for me.

EasyCleaner is a small program which searches Windows' registry for entries
that are pointing nowhere.
Version 2.0.5:
<snip>

Seems like EasyCleaner 2 needs an easy cleaner to clean the junk it puts in
the registry and on other parts of your hard drive (this expands on a short
comment that Joan made at the bottom of her post in this thread in which
she noted that EasyCleaner 2.05 adds 66 registry entries). Comparing
registry and other drive changes between EasyCleaner 1.7 and 2.0.5 yields
the following results:

REG KEYS ADDED:

EasyCleaner 1.7 ... 5

EasyCleaner 2.05 ... 63

REG VALUES ADDED:

EasyCleaner 1.7 ... 6

EasyCleaner 2.05 ... 90

REG VALUES CHANGED:

EasyCleaner 1.7 ... 0

EasyCleaner 2.05 ... 69

FOLDERS ADDED:

EasyCleaner 1.7 ... 4 Total;
1 under Startup Programs Group
3 under D:\Program Files\EasyCleaner

EasyCleaner 2.05 ... 11 Total;
3 under Startup Programs Group
3 under D:\Program files\EasyCleaner
4 under C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Installshield\Professional
1 under D:\Program Files\Installshield
Installation Information\

FILES ADDED:

EasyCleaner 1.7 ... 52 Total;
3 under Startup Programs (Shortcuts)
49 under D:\Program Files\EasyCleaner (44 Related to Language)**

EasyCleaner 2.05 ... 35 Total;
6 under Startup Programs (Shortcuts & Toni Arts URLs)
9 under D:\Program Files\EasyCleaner (6 Related to Language)**
10 under C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Installshield\Professional
10 under D:\Program Files\Installshield
Installation Information\

** Even though the number of files added by version 2.05 is less
than the number added by version 1.7, a look at the details
reveals that this is accomplished by leaving out support for all
languages except English and Finnish in version 2.05. The majority
of the files installed under 2.05 get installed in directories not
directly related to functionality of EasyCleaner (i.e Installshield
junk).

I have removed all of this and will not be using it again. Others may have
less aversion to trash on their computers, but I have a high aversion when
the program that installs the junk is: a) not very good in and itself and /
or b) better alternatives exist. If EasyCleaner was just an executable with
a few registry entries, it might be worth keeping.

So can you recommend a better one? (Not a snotty question, a real one.)

Just curious.
So, are you for it or against it?

I use a variety of methods and software to keep my registry clean, but to
answer the question about a straight alternative to EasyCleaner, I'm with
Mike Ring who likes RegSeeker:

RegSeeker website : http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

RegSeeker seems more polished than EasyCleaner and definitely has it beat
as far as the amount of stuff it adds to your computer (or more
appropriately, doesn't add to your computer). RegSeeker currently installs
by simply unzipping a ~308kb archive into the folder of your choice.

All reg cleaners require some caution and knowledge when using, and I never
take all items suggested for removal at face value. These programs,
however, do give you a reasonable starting point from which to make
decisions.

Duplicate file finder re-writen, unbelievable speed!

< snip >

That is certainly true of past versions. The speed was so pathetic it
amazes me that anyone would have the nerve to release such an
inferior product. IMO anyone recommending this program almost
certainly hasn't used it. Or, if they have, haven't tried all the
functions.

Regards, John.

Thanks. I just went to look at the screenshots, and I like the fact that
they give you the reason for listing the entry, as well as the entry
itself.

Thank you for posting that. When the time remaining came up at over 200
hours, I thought there must be something wrong with my system.

I had a disastrous experience with the previous version of
EasyCleaner. Based on advice in this forum, have been using RegSeeker
cautiously: First backing up the registry with ERUNT, then using
RegSeeker category by category, removing primarily registry entries
related to programs I no longer have installed.

Also: when uninstalling a program, using RegSeeker's "Find in
registry" function to make sure related registry entries are removed.

One question, though: I have noticed that RegSeeker lists some
entries in red and some in green. Does anyone know what this means?

Green means "Should be safe to remove"

Red means "may not be safe to remove - make sure you know what you are
doing before you approve removal"

I've never had any problem in removing all green entries without
checking the content and have removed several red entries after
ensuring that I knew what was being removed - but like they say - be
careful.

I haven't tested the latest, but sure agree about its dupes finder speed
being unbelievabe for v1.7. If one were to have ever committed to waiting
for the full process to finally complete, it would've made a good subject
for a school paper..."What my computer did on its summer vacation."
