So you know that cool feature that allows you to switch between windows with
that 3D effect. When I place my cursor over the icon it says "Switch between
windows". Well sometimes when I press it the cool effect happens where the
windows minimize and scroll. Other times some rectangular box opens and
shows the icons of programs that are open. Question...how do I always get
the cool scrolling windows thing happen. Am I doing something wrong?????

You call for it by pressing the "winkey" + the tab key.

Stare at the keyboard and open/shut one eyelid

Or just press the key with the Windows symbol on it
and then add Tab to invoke "flip3d."

Usually, the Winkey's symbol is the "Windows Flag" on your keyboard (like
the flag inside the orb that represents the Start Menu on your Desktop's
Taskbar, only in black and white).

As far as that "some rectangular box" you see, the keyboard shortcut is Alt
+ Tab. When you click on the Quick Launch "Switch Between Windows" icon,
you should get the Flip 3D view, if you are using the Windows Vista (Aero)
theme.

To the group: Helpful answers all, but I'm curious as to why he's sometimes
getting the Alt + tab behavior when clicking on that quicklaunch button.
Anyone else seeing this behavior?

And to the OP: since you have your quicklaunch bar enabled, Winkey + 2 also
works. (That's the #2 key on the numeric keys running across the top of your
keyboard. For some reason this doesn't work if you use the #2 key on the
calculator keypad, at least not on my machine.)

That shortcut will only work if "Switch Windows" is the #2 icon in the top
row of Quick Launch.

I use a double row Taskbar, so I have two rows of of icons in the Quick
Launch region of Taskbar.

Win Key + any Number to the left of "-" 0 which equals 10, will open the
icon that number from the start button.

HTH!

Stupid question here - if I accidently removed that icon from the
quicklaunch bar - clicked on it and moved the mouse the wrong way and it
disappeared :( - how do I find that program again to add it back? I can't
figure out what that thing's called to save my life...

The file is called "Switch between windows". You could do a search as to
where it went, and drag it back to the Quick Launch Bar. If you can't find
it, a copy of the file should be in
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch,
which you could Copy (don't Cut), and Paste into C:\Users\(Your
Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.
