Easier way to navigate items using the keyboard?

When I move around in Outlook 2003 (from Tasks to Notes to

Contacts, etc.) I want to be able to immediately navigate

the items shown (e.g. use the arrow keys, or press an alpha

key to go to the first item beginning with that letter).

Yet after I press, say, Crtl-5 to open the Notes window

Outlook seems to be in a useless state - unless I press

Ctrl-tab, or take my hand off the keyboard and grab the

mouse - I can't navigate the items.

Not a big deal, but still a nuisance. Do I always have to press

Ctrl-Tab after switching to a new window or is there a

better way?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Yes, unless you only use the Folder List Navigation

Phillip, it's not much of an improvement (one key vs two?), but for what
it's worth, you can press the F6 function key to toggle back and forth
between the Navigation Pane and the Information Viewer.
