E-mail initial opening slow

I'm using Outlook 2007 under MS Vista Premium. When I open Outlook,
the display of new mail is exceedingly slow. If I have 5 new messages,
the first may be one minute in opening and this morning number 5
hasn't displayed after 15 minutes. What's going on?
