e-mail "frozen" in outbox

Hi everyone,
A few of our users using Outlook 2003 seem to have an issue with e-mail
messages being stuck in their outbox. The send/receive error says that it
can't communicate with the outgoing server. However, upon further
investigation, each time outlook looped trying to send the e-mail, it was
sending another copy to the intended recipient, filling up their inboxes. My
question is if this is a known issue and/or what to do to stop this from
happening. Any input would be appreciated.

The biggest cause of this is a largish message trying to be sent and you
have your antivirus program configured to scan mail. At the very least, you
should configure your antivirus program so that it doesn't scan outgoing
mail. A better approach is to uninstall your AV program and reinstall
without the mail integration feature.

Thank you for your response. I tried configuring the AV software to not even
stream with outlook and it still was having issues. Ended up finding out
there was some kind of maintenance going on at the smtp server we send
through and they failed to notify anybody until after the fact. Once again,
I thank you for your help and now know what to look for in the future in
case these symptoms arise again.
