E-mail Back Up

I attempted to back up my E-mail files by sending the .dbx files to be burned
onto a CD. A dialogue window informed me that I had 889 MB of data to burn
onto a 702 MB CD - So it could not be done.

Next, I deleted hundreds of E-mails, emptied the Delete Folder, emptied the
Recycle Bin, and restarted my computer.

Then I attempted to back up my E-mail files again, but I received the same
message. I still had the same 889 MB of data to burn onto a 702 MB CD.

Why didn't the deletion of hundreds of E-mail - reduce the 889 MB of data?

How can I reduce the 889 MB of data?
Please help.
Thank You,

Thank You,

Because when you delete an email from OE, although the physical mail has
gone, the SPACE that it took up is still there. You need to do a
File-Folders-Compact all folders. WARNING - do NOT interrupt the process!

I am NOT 100% positive of this, but when email is backed up to CD or DVD it
is read only and will NOT allow you to restore you email from that disk.
You may want to try it before depending completely on your method.

Correct - all files on CDs and DVDs (other than CDRW and DVDRW that have
been formatted for packet writing) are Read Only. (CD ROM = CD Read Only
Memory)
and will NOT allow you to restore you email from that
disk.

Incorrect. A "Restore" of email usually involves copying the files back to
the HDD so the Read-Only attribute on the CD/DVD is irrelevant.
