I want to offer some civil war ebooks for sale and
download on my frontpage2002 site. What is the best way
to do this? Should I have the ebooks in pdf form...or
something else? Should I hook up with paypal as the
payment method.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with Mr. B that candypress is great. easy to deal with in FrontPage
too. I also agree that PDF is a nice universal format but the full version
of Acrobat is fairly expensive and complicated. You may also want to look
into Microsoft's e-book format.

Chris, could you give me some more info on Microsoft's e-
book format....i'm not familiar with that. Thanks!

You don't need Acrobat to generate PDFs. There are a number of much less
expensive and even free PDF generators available. A few that I know of:
- pdfFactory / pdfFactory Pro - http://www.pdffactory.com - licensed only
- CutePDF - http://www.cutepdf.com - free and licensed versions
- pdf995 - http://www.pdf995.com/ - free and licensed versions

The license pricing for all are in the $100 or less range. I've never used
pdf995 but I did use an earlier version of pdfFactory and really liked it.
If you just want to generate PDFs from Word or other applications, the free
CutePDF version will probably address those needs quite nicely. I've only
used it a couple times, but it seems to work quite well.

I haven't really played with PDF security, so I'm not sure how necessary it
would be in a commercial venture, but it's probably worth exploring as it
may help protect your content. pdfFactory Pro has security options and, of
course, Acrobat will do that as well.
