Dynamic Update Problem (w95upgnt.dll)

Hi,

I am having problems with using the /duprepare option when running on a Win
XP machine.

The command line is: <winnt32 /duprepare:"D:\du">
Main module path: <F:\I386\WINNT32U.DLL>
Loaded upgrade module: <F:\I386\WINNTUPG\NETUPGRD.DLL>
DUInfo: Enter Winnt32DuProcessFiles
DUInfo: Source=D:\du
DUInfo: Analyzing package D:\du\winnt32.cab...
DUInfo: pProcessWinnt32Files: found patch D:\du\winnt32\w95upgnt.dll._p1
DUError: pProcessWinnt32Files: ApplyPatchToFile failed to apply patch
D:\du\winnt32\w95upgnt.dll._p1 to file C:\WINDOWS\setupupd\temp\w95upgnt.dll
(rc=3222159620[0xC00E4104])
DUInfo: Leave Winnt32DuProcessFiles (0)

Why is it attempting to write to the C drive when running the /duprepare
switch? According to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;312110 it mentions
that files are copy to %WINDIR%\Setupupd on setup - I assume this does not
mean it should do this when you run /duprepare?

Appreciate anyone's help...

Hello Chris,
Are you using Windows XP Gold or are you using Windows XP with SP1?
Since SP1 incorporates all the DU updates, if you try to run winnt32 from a
source that has SP1 slipstreamed into the install share you may get errors
like this.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Hello Chris,
I think all the updates for Dynamic Update are already in SP1, so if you
are using slipstreamed media that might be what is causing the issue.
Thanks,

Hello Chris,
Are you using Windows XP Gold or are you using Windows XP with SP1?
Since SP1 incorporates all the DU updates, if you try to run winnt32 from a
source that has SP1 slipstreamed into the install share you may get errors
like this.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Hi,

I am having problems with using the /duprepare option when running on a Win
XP machine.

The command line is: <winnt32 /duprepare:"D:\du">
Main module path: <F:\I386\WINNT32U.DLL>
Loaded upgrade module: <F:\I386\WINNTUPG\NETUPGRD.DLL>
DUInfo: Enter Winnt32DuProcessFiles
DUInfo: Source=D:\du
DUInfo: Analyzing package D:\du\winnt32.cab...
DUInfo: pProcessWinnt32Files: found patch D:\du\winnt32 \w95upgnt.dll._p1
DUError: pProcessWinnt32Files: ApplyPatchToFile failed to apply patch
D:\du\winnt32\w95upgnt.dll._p1 to file
C:\WINDOWS\setupupd\temp\w95upgnt.dll
(rc=3222159620[0xC00E4104])
DUInfo: Leave Winnt32DuProcessFiles (0)

Why is it attempting to write to the C drive when running the /duprepare
switch? According to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN- US;312110 it mentions
that files are copy to %WINDIR%\Setupupd on setup - I assume this does not
mean it should do this when you run /duprepare?

Appreciate anyone's help...
