I would like to buy a DVR with an ATSC tuner and a port an for an
external eSATA or USB drive. Does anyone make such a device?
Multiple tuners would be a big plus. Thank you in advance for all
replies.

Yep, plenty do.
Multiple tuners would be a big plus.

Those more often have an internal drive.
Thank you in advance for all replies.

Even ones that tell you to shove your head up a dead bear's arse ? Funky.

The manual on this is not very clear. Can this DVR record
two different programs at the same time or can it just record
one program while the user watches a different program?

If it doesnt say so explicitly, it can normally only record one
program while allowing the user to watch something else.

Then its not what most DVR users call a Dual Tuner. I have had the capability
to record 2 things at once while watching an already recorded show with my
DirecTV TIVO DVR for over a decade now.

It can record 2 programs at once and while viewing something else from the
HDD, network, or the some of the internet channels.
It even has a bit torrent client if like you "rent" movies from the pirate
bay. :)
Where in the website does it claim two shows can record at the same time while
watching a recorded show?

It isnt what DVR users call it that matters, its what the manufacturer calls it.

And quite a few with dual tuners cant do that.

If a device had dual tuners, in this decade and this century one comes to
expect that the device is going to support recording two shows at once. if it
cant, then it is very obsolete hardware.

And quite a few with dual tuners cant do that.

Obsolete crap then!

Have you used one of these and recorded two different programs
simultaneously?

Indeed, the user manual repeatedly says, "In case of dual tuner, you can watch
other channels while recording a program of your choice," and doesn't mention
any other use of the dual tuner.

Yup, use it to record the most of the late night shows no problems.
2 shows at once, while pulling up a thrird to playback?

Then why does the website say whatch one while record another? It says nothing
of record 2 while wtch a thrid already recorded show. Like i have said before,
Tivo has done that for over 10 years.

Taint true of some of the cheapest chinese DVRs.

Wrong.

A device that is released in 2011 that can't do what a device 13 years ago
could without breaking a sweat "IS" very obsolete.

How so???? Explain why it isnt obsolete?

That may just be a lousy manual. Even some of the Japanese manual
leave a lot to be desired, including one Samsung TV which has a built
in digital TV tuner which the manual says nothing explicit about.
Like i have said before, Tivo has done that for over 10 years.

But thats a much more high end product than the cheapest chinese stuff.

Wrong when its a MUCH cheaper product than the 13 year old one was.

When its a much cheaper product that the Tivo has ever been.

OK, i agree, it could do what i am describing and something is just lost in
translation.

You could be right, judging by part of Daniel Prince's signature
line:

"When I am in the kitchen, I often kick one of my cat's balls."

(Sounds painful, does it not?)
