This problem sems to have only recently started. First
noticed after son installed Monopoly Tycoon . After
removing the MT disc he then wanted to install Warcraft
3, However having replaced with the warcraft disc he said
he was unable to instal. When I checked My Computer -
although the warcraft disc was in drive the exporer was
showing the folder/directory structure of the Monopoly
disc.
This seemed to persist even after logging off /
restarting.
Applied a Restore to before Monopoly installed - and
Managed to install Warcraft - however exactly same
problem noticed when then wanted to install Anno 1503 -
the drove appeared to show details of the warcraft disc
although no longer there.
By ejecting the disc -leaving tray open then Right
clicking on drive , Properties, Volume and Populate -
which detects no media - then putting new disc in and
repeating actions above appears to allow reading of newly
inserted disc ?
Also drive does not appear to autoplay on disc insertion -
as it used to prompt for particular application
dependent on what media used - this is despite ensuring
the autoplay is selected on properties.
Finally - for some reason the F: DVD rom now also
permanently seems to have lable based on Anno 1503 disc 2
can anyone help - as becoming increasingly annoying

Very common issue within XP, Rob.

Suggestions:

Open My Computer, right click on the CD Rom in question,
Properties/Hardware/Properties/Volumes/Populate.

Other than that, this problem can occur if you are using Folder view in
Windows Explorer. The view may not be automatically refreshed in Folder view
in Windows Explorer.

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:

Manually refresh Windows Explorer by pressing F5 or by clicking Refresh on
the View menu in Windows Explorer. And/or Do not use Folder view in Windows
Explorer.

Thanx Kelly - Volumes /Populate method had been using but
