DVD/RW Problem

I have a Dell E510 that has a drive HL-DT-ST DVD+ - RW GWA 41648 drive.
I can put a program CD in the drive such as Windows disk and the drive
reads it. If I put a data disk that was written on another Dell and seen
by all Dells in the office, it can't see information on disk. If I try
to write as new data disk Windows keeps asking me to insert a blank
disk. Same thing if I ask it to erase or format the disk. What should I do?

Evidently, you are trying to write a DVD with XP alone. XP cannot
create/write a DVD. You need to install either Roxio or Nero to be able to
create/write DVDs.
Also, evidently, the other computers in your office have such software. The
reading problem is most likely caused by incorrect closing of the disk on
those computers.

I wrote a regular CDR on the other machines and each other machine sees
them. I only made CDR not DVD. I also only used the XP to write those
disks. The DVD/RW does not even recognize a blank CDR. Or a DVD-R. I
also tried to write a CDR using the Sonic My DVD program that came with
the drive, and it also asks to insert a clean CDR or DVD.
