dvd-rom drive

Hello

I use xp sp2 home.

I fitted a new dvd-rom drive. Someone informed me I do not have to use the
audio cable that comes with the drive as the sound is carried by the ide
cable.

Would connecting the audio cable to the motherboard improve my sound
quality - make it digital perhaps ?? Thank you.
