DVD+R recognized as CD

To start off with, I do have emulation programs on my computer, but they have
all been disabled/turned off.

Anyways, when I put a blank DVD+R disc into my drive, it says that it is a
Blank CD, and not a DVD. I have tried different discs, but the results are
all the same (Blank CD, not DVD). But when I put in a normal DVD, such as a
movie or a game DVD, my laptop will recognize it as a DVD. My laptop is
still fairly new (got it in August of 2006), and I have tried updating the
driver, but it says that there are no newer drivers.
Can anyone accept the challenge to help me, please?

So far, I tried using Alcohol and PowerISO, which used to work perfectly
fine....now they tell me to place an empty DVD in each time I put a new one
in.....

No matter what OS says, can you burn DVD as DVD, or burning software
also can't recognize DVD as DVD? If you can burn DVD it doesn't
matter. Windows gets stupid some times. I gave up on finding all
solutions on numerous problems.

Some things that can solve problem: new burning software; new firmware
for optical drive; removing software that cashes CD/DVD for fast
accessing (if you have some)... I ran out of ideas.
Good luck.
