DVD Problems

I have an HP Pavilion 7960. It came loaded with ME with a Pioneer DVD
player. I upgraded to XP and trying to use Window Media Player. The drive
will read data and play music CD, but will not recognize a DVD. I
de-installed and reinstalled the hardware. Please help.
