Hi, I'm trying to make a cd with all photos that i had from vacations to be
viewed on a DVD Player. Is it possible to just make a CD-R Disc with nothing
but photos or do I have to make a VCD?

You can make a self launching slide show on a CD-R
that will play on your computer but if you want to play
it in your DVD player you need to make a VCD.

Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album 4 has an option for
making VCDs. It's very simple and you can also add
music files.

You can download an evaluation version here:

Hi Yves,

Maybe you are more critical than I am but the VCDs
I have made with 1200 x 1600 images look great on
my TV. And, since my Toshiba DVD player won't play
regular slideshows, the VCD or connecting my camera
to the TV is my only choice.

I have a new LG DVD and use Nero for burning. As long as
the photo is jpeg .jpg I burn as a data file and this is
OK on the DVD. Check your instruction book as noone
advised me that this was possible when I bought the DVD
player. Good luck Allan

Hi John,
Maybe I am. When I connect a 3MP Sony or Olympus camera via the video output
of the camera and play a slide show on my TV, the pictures look absolutely
great. So I am looking for the same quality when playing a CD-R or a VCD but
I can't get it. There is a noticeable degradation, OK pictures on the TV but
not great.

Are you reducing the size of the image files when
making the slideshow or VCD?

No, original files. In fact I just did a CD-R for a friend who has a 2MP
Kodak camera since she does not have video out from this camera. Quality is
OK, but not great. For VCD, I don't quite remember what I used. Did this
when XP came out and was not satisfied with the quality, so I just went back
to displaying photos from the camera memory card. Maybe there is better
software now to make a VCD. Or I will just stop being stubborn and buy a DVD
burner.

Now you're talking...

And the prices are getting
more within reason now.
