I keep getting this error:
Windows Media Player is currently unable to play DVD
video. Try decreasing the number of colors displayed on
your monitor or decreasing the screen resolution. For
additional solutions, click More Information to access
the DVD Troubleshooter.

It comes up when I try to play a DVD. I have a Sony Viao
that crashed a week ago and a friend reinstalled the OS
(XP Professional) over again. He did not install it from
the recovery CD. He bought a new OS. Now, I can't play
DVD's anymore. What's up? I have tried decreasing
number of colors as the error suggested but to no avail.

Goto the Control Panel>>Display Properties>>Settings
Tab>>Advanced>>troubleshooting>.Make sure hardware acceleration is set to
max.

Also try reinstalling your DVD Decoding Software
