dvd player won`t play dvds

I recently switched from Win Me to Windows 2000 Professional and now my dvd player won`t work. I can play cd`s and VCD@s but the dvds don`t play properly...It skips. Is there something I need to download? My computer says the device is working properly.

You may need new Dvd player software, if what you have now is not
fully compatible with Win2000
