"I don't feel the need to be famous. It's all bullshit anyway....Having people around me just because I'm famous makes me feel really bad about myself. So I give 10% to my agent to do the fame thing, and I go focus on whatever I love."

DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink - freeware!

Both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are beautiful pieces of software.

You run your DVD movie through Decrypter and it puts the movie
files onto your hard drive, free of that annoying encryption the
wicked publishers persist in saddling them with. It also removes
those nasty regional restrictions that we all hate.

Then you run those files through DVD Shrink and it reduces the
size of the files so that they will fit on a standard single-layer
4.7 gig DVD+R or DVD-R. Commercial DVDs are all double-layer, and
hold 9 gigs, so movies need to be shrunk to fit onto a standard DVD.

After that, all you need to do is drag and drop your shrunken
movie files to a blank DVD+R using any DVD burner program, and
you've got a duplicate of your movie DVD with almost no
discernable loss in quality. How much quality you lose depends on
how much you shrink the files, which in turn depends on how many
files you choose to keep -- most people discard at least the
foreign language files. Personally, I like to discard all the crap
such as the previews, intro screen and extras, and keep only the
movie, which means I lose no quality at all, or not enough to
perceive.

Recently the very talented, brave and generous hero who wrote DVD
Decrypter was threatened by the rich, fat, evil media barons who
control the movie DVD sales with a lawsuit, which intimidated him
into ceasing to offer DVD Decrypter, so get it where you still
can, anywhere you can, while it is still available. No doubt the
evil overlords who sell the DVD movies will change their
encryption scheme to defeat DVD Decrypter eventually, but as of
right now it still works flawlessly.

Whilst I understand that some encrypted DVD's need to be run through
DVDDecypter first, I've always found DVDShrink can strip the encrytion
without any difficulties..

Is there a freeware program that can convert a DVD image file that was
created by one of these programs from PAL to NTSC or the reverse?

Doesn't work for everything. I've had it fail so many times, I
always use DVD Decrypter first, then use Shrink to resize the files.

DVD Decrypter
...and what if I have a dual layer enabled dvd-writer and dvds? :)

Then you're a lucky rich bastard, because blank dual-layer DVDs
cost five dollars a pop around here.

LOL. I have the writer but I don't have any dual-layer DVDs. I'm
definitely not rich in money.
