DVD/CD Rom and other external drives locked by vista

DVD/CD Rom and other external drives locked by vista. so when you plug them
in or try to run a cd it just comes up with the messages optical device
locked ??

Any idea how to un block them.

I am having similar problem. Have an Acer Aspire 5610, which i received the
Vista upgrade disk. Had nothing but problems since then, and I am currently
trying to resolve them bit by bit. Latest one involves locked storage
devices, whether it is the built in DVD drive or a removable USB Flash stick.
They both refuse access because they are locked.
Want to transfer photo/docs to a storage stick, so I can kick this shit
system off and put XP back, but locked drives won't let me transfer material
to them.
Can't sign in as the Administrator, coz that is another problem I have to
get round to fixing.
Anybody got any ideas? Ta
