DVD/CD Drive letter change

Every time I assign my choice of a drive letter to a DVD and CD-Rom drive,
Windows XP changes them back to the next available letters (followint C:) on
boot-up. I know there is a way as I've successfully made a permanant change
on two other XP machines, personal and pro. I've been changing the drive
letter through Computer Management, Disk Management.

You should be able to permenatly change drive letters in this way

If both devcices are on the same ide cable then ensure that they are set one
as master and the other slave (or possibly both as cable select)

If this is ok then try swapping the master / slave round.

I dont think this should matter but depending on your bios/motherboard it
might

Both were on one cable and jumpered to cable select. I tried all possible
combinations with no luck until I uninstalled both with the device manager,
used master on the DVD and slave on the CD-RW, and assigned new letters. So
far its holding up. Thanks for the help.
