dvd burner

hi guys/gals. I am new to some things on the computer and
know a lot about other things. this i know nothing
about. I got a dvd burner on my latest Dell. I don't know
what I can do with it. it is in a combo burner. what
kinds of things can i do with it other than music stuff.
to rip a movie, i'd need extra software. I have roxio--
what can i do with the software i have.

someone told me I can make a copy of my entire harddrive
on 1 or 2 dvd's. (someone from Dell) so as to avoid in
the future having to delete harddrive and totally
reinstall op system. can u give instr. on how to do this
or point me in the right direction?

Hello there,

You can make copies of existing DVD's but with some quality loss and by leaving
out all of the extra stuff the dvd contains.....No idea what software to use to
do that.....

You can use it to make backup copies of your hard drive (This is what I do)
using an appropriate program...I use Drive Image....very good program.

You can use it as a rather slow hard drive if it has DVD-RAM capabilities
