What is the favored DVD burner software around here? Hopefully
something fairly to use.

Let me repeat...... Faster, Lighter, Free!

:-) It just works better (at least for my needs).

Oh.. yes there were other reasons why I switched...!!!!

This is about nero 6.6x and 7 was a monster, huge and bloated beyond belief
so I
did not want to use that.

1st big and strange problem:
Nero kept telling me that it found problems when it verified the disk data
after a recording...
I looked it up on the internet and it seems that there were a lot of people
having this problem,
and was saying that this was a "problem" of nero since its verification was
not always correct!
This was making me feel uneasy to keep seeing verification problems because
I was not sure
if my disks were correct in reality.

I switched to cd burner xp and this problem did not exist. The verifications
where successful.

2nd Big and strange problem.
For some strange reason when I tried to launch nero from time to time I
would get this
superbly stupid message (something like the following)
"Some program or virus has altered the Nero installation. Please reinstall
nero to fix it"

And I had to do a repair installation to get it running again. Of course I
did not have
a virus and I did not touch nero in any way.. I looked the problem up on
google,
but there was nothing I could find about this problem.

I concluded that Nero had some serious problems.. and I had to find an
alternative..
even though nero was my first and best choice in the past.

Nero is mega-shite - cracker/warez stuff program.

Best when copied w/o paying!!!!!! Or, the 5bucks-version at the local
(china-shite hardware-dealer)

Depends on one's particular needs, I suppose; my burning
requirements are very basic, and so far DeepBurner has done the job
for me.

Better than Nero! faster lighter.... I unistalled nero after using
this! And FREE :-)

XP Pro does not recognise my Sony CRX-300E unless DMA is disabled.

(Sorry about excessive snipping, my newsreader only puts in one level of
quotes from john's posts; I dunno why this is)

Basically it depends what you want to do. There are pros and cons for both.
For me it wasn't better, for some it is and you have to combine it with
other freeware to do some things.
It's free is the only real advantage. It does basic burning of data and
audio files but I wouldn't say it does everything Nero does. If that's all
you need then it is fine and at no cost, great value. I had a few ASPI
problems with it, other than that, for my needs found it very limited. If I
wanted to burn a DVD from my camcorder I needed to use an old free version
of Tmpgenc, then DVDstyler (which is VERY flakey) and then I could burn it
to a DVD with cdburnerxp. Nero does this in one sweep. I also felt that
CDburnerxp didn't quite give the clarity on audio. I found the speed to be
no different in any way whatsoever. These were my findings for my needs, but
give cdburnerxp a try and see if it suits you. I'm told deepburner is better
than cdburnerxp, but I've never tried it.
