DVD Burner issues

Hopefully someone can Help!!
I have an AOPEN DVD burner with the following probs. I can read DVD/CD data
or movies without a problem. When I get ready to burn it does not recognize
the blank DVD or CD. It just continues to blink. I have uninstalled the
burning software (NERO), changed the IDE Cables, swith from master to slave
and also upgraded the firmware. Still there is no change. There are no
conflicts and no errors with the drive. Not sure if it is the burner itself
or software related. Unfortunately I have no other computer to test it on.
Any help would be appreciated. Tks!!

Try installing another CD/DVD burning package such as CDBurnerXP Pro
(http://www.cdburnerxp.se/), this is free and does burn DVDs, if you
still cannot burn then that would suggest a hardware problem.

You might also want to add a System Environment Variable,
DevMgr_Show_Details and set it's value to 1. Then open up
Device Manager, Expand DVD/CD category and double
click your AOpen drive. When the details box opens, click
the right-most tab (Details) and then toggle the window that
shows "Device Instance ID" to the following:
1.) Class Lower Filter
2.) Class Upper Filter
If your burning software installed any Upper or Lower filter
drivers it may account for the issues you describe.
Also make sure in the Properties for the drive you have the
"Enable Recording" option tic'd/checked.

Thanks for the info....not sure what you mean by adding a system environement
variable..are you referring to the registry?
