duplicating itself

I had a case where one of my databases duplicated itself
and and then renamed itself db1 and db2. I have never
seen this before, and neither has my network
administrator, was currious if anyone else has. I would
like to prevent it from happening again. Any sugestions?

Did this happen when you were trying to compact and repair? It can happen
if the fiel is locked and you compact and repair.

I didn't lock any fields. I set it up to conpact upon
closing the database but I don't think that I set the
repair.

Yes, set Access to compact on closing could be the very cause here.

If the *.mdb file is also opend by other user while you are closing is,
Access can still compact the file loaded in your computer's memory, but
cannot save it back to original file on disk, because it is in use by other
user, thus, Access saves it as DB1 (or DB2, if DB1 is already in that
folder, and so on). If the *.mdb file is shared by more than one user, you'd
better not compact it on closing. Find other way to do it, if it is
necessary.
