Hi

I'm using MS Outlook 2003. I recently purchased a lap-top & transferred my
..pst file from my desk-top to it so that my data (mail, contacts, calendar,
etc) was current while I was away from home for 6 weeks. When I got back
home, I wanted to reverse the process to ensure that the data on my desk-top
was current. Anyway, a long story short, I stuffed it up some-what. I do
have all my mail back on the desk-top & up-to-date but along the way I now
have the 'Personal Folders' listed 5 times under the 'All Mail Folders'
section. They all seem to be identical in terms of content. When I
right-click on the 4 I don't want visible, the option to either delete them
or remove them is greyed out. Is there anyway I can get rid of these without
losing any data?

TIA for any help
Mark

Right click on each and choose Close instead of delete or remove. You will be
able to close all the duplicates. Only the main folder will not allow closing.

Mary...sorry, my mistake in my original post. It is the 'Close' option (not
Delete) that is greyed out & unavailable on all of the duplicates when I
right-click on them. Any other suggestions?

check the Data File Management:
File - Data File Management...
You will see all attached pst-files... try to remove them here.

OK, did that & that got rid of 1 'duplicate' entry. I now have 3 remaining +
the main entry. There are only 2 files listed in the Data File Management
dialog box. One for the Personal folders, & one for the Archive folders. I'm
sure if I delete the Personal folders one then the duplicates will
dissappear but so will my main data file which will be pointless. Is there a
program or something that can go through my .pst file & get rid of
duplicates? I've seen references in other posts mentioning something called
'scanpst.exe'. What does this do?

Thanks

Your problem is not with the PST file, but with a corrupt profile.
If you cannot R click and close a duplicate entry, you won't be able to
remove it from Data File Management either. Just create a new profile from
scratch. Before you do, make sure you note the name and location of the PST
file you want to use as your default, and configure your new profile to use
it.
