Duplicate Personal Folders in Navigation Pane

I installed the demo version of Outlook 2003 on a new computer. I copied my
Personal Folder from my other computer and now I see two versions of the
exact same Personal Folders in my Navigation Pane...and if I receive new
e-mail, it shows up in both of these Personal Folders. How can I eliminate
one copy? It is not a separate folder, it's just a second glimpse of the
original.

Try right clicking on Personal Folders (not the one with Outlook Today next
to it) and select close. If you get an error message back, you will need to
create a new mail profile via the mail applet in the control panel. (don't
copy the existing profile. just create a new one and delete the old.)

When I right click on Personal Folders (I'm not sure when you say Outlook
Today next it, but I've tried several variations, and I'm assuming that you
mean to do it in the navigation pane on the left), the choice to "close" is
gray so I can't select it.

Do a ctrl + 6 to switch to the folder list on the left. Do you see 2 sets
of personal folders (one will have outlook today next to it and the other
will not)?

I'm having the exact same problem. Moved to a new computer and moved over my
outlook.pst folder to the new computer. When I opened outlook, there were
identical Personal Folders (dup). Properties point to the exact same file
(outlook.pst). One has an Outlook Today icon, the other has a file folders
icon. Can't close either one. I'm not sure how to get rid of the duplicate
since it won't let me do so due to the pointer to the same outlook.pst file.

Any ideas?

You will have to close Outlook and create a new mail profile via the mail
applet in the control panel. (don't copy the existing one. create new and
then delete the old one)
