Duplicate index entries- help?

Hello,

I posted this question a week or so ago and wasn't notified of any replies
(and can't see it in a search) so I'm posting it again.

I'm working with a several hundred page document with about 100+ Index
entries. I was modifying it this year, though I created it last year. When
modifying it, I added a few new index entries and strangely, while most work
fine, some do not list together. So instead of having "Fruit, Apples.....1,
3, 5, 77, 888" I get "Fruit, Apples ...... 1" "Fruit, Apples......3" "Fruit,
Apples...... 5" and so on for 77 and 888.

I've tried deleting them all and re-entering them. I've tried deleting them
and cut-pasting one XE text listing. So far, nothing fixes it.

They are all definitely typed exactly the same. The only difference I've
seen is that some fall next to different other index entries or other field
codes (I also use Table of Authorities entries, for example).

Any ideas?
