duplicate emails

Do you get exactly two copies of every incoming email, or does it
download the same messages each time?

Look in Tools, Accounts, and make sure you don't have a duplicate
mail account.

I get exactly two copies of every incoming mail, and no I don't have duplicate accounts
 
Which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not fully compatible
with Windows Mail. Make sure the antivirus is not configured to scan
emails. Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from antivirus programs:
